Dig, Set, Spike! It's Volleyball time!

WoOHoOoOoOooooo! Volleyball is back again after some time. Last Sunday...i participated in the UTAR Sports Carnival 2008 which was held in University Malaya. The event was a whole day event and all the faculties competed in basketball, table tennis, badminton, volleyball, tug-of-war, futsal and tennis. This year there ain't squash. I'm from the Faculty of Acountancy and Management so i represented FAM to compete against FICT, FES, FAS & Foundation. There was a team 'Alumi' which comprises of ex-Utarians who came back to join in the fun too.

I was soooo surprised and happy when i saw my 'kor kor' as i did not expect to see him there. Then only i found out he is also playing. Cool! I used to play volleyball on every Thursday night during Foundation with a bunch of people who are older than me 5 years so all of them are like my elder brothers and sisters. It's very fun to mingle with them coz im the youngest among them and they are very hilarious and sporting. After coming up to KL to study i play volleyball in mixed teams so its more challenging to have guys in the team rather than last time playing in an all-girls team.

The net is much higher but eventually i got used to it and you really gotta be brave to receive their powerful spikes. I like the challenge & playing mixed has made me improved more than last time. My teammates are geng chao people weih...1 played for Sukma Games this year and others are state players. There were 9 of us, 2 are girls. The guys were Boon Ying the Captain, Nicholas the setter, Shao Ling, Zhi Wei, Kah Shen, Wei Ming, Tze Quan, Lian Teng one of the girl and myself. My other teammate sprained her ankle in the game so im the only girl left. If i had an injury too, then i think we GG la coz a team need to have at least one female.

When it was around 1pm the sun was already quite sunny so everyone dreaded the heat. Haha...I was already BBQ-ed while sparing with my teammates. We got into the finals with the ex-Utarian team which our match started at 3pm. The guys were grumbling and Wei Ming's face was damn farnee la...Since morning he has put on a sulking face coz he was very tired after a dance competition the day before. I kept cheering them on to stay focused and heck care the sun. Come on guys! Its only the sunnnnn! So we all pia kaw kaw and we won Champion in 3 consecutive matches. :D

I miss miss miss my 'setter days'. . . .Those days were very tough but great! My build was so fit and i had superb stamina coz we have to run 10 rounds of the field during recess. The best moment was when the Under-18 tournament was held at my own school Convent and the whole school gathered at the volleyball court to watch us win the Champions. The Head of the Afternoon session teacher gave a special order for everyone to skip class and go down to the field to support us! SHE IS SO COOL! My friends who were from the morning session also stayed back just to support us. Man.........i tell uuu when the troop of students came i felt like "Wouuuuuu!"

The pressure on us was intense coz Convent has won gold for 6 consecutive times and we have a mission to make it the 7th time. All our seniors and juniors were there to watch us so we got to live up to our expectations. Confidence was there coz we had a sense of familiarity with the court and we played at home ground. When we won the winning point, the cheers & applause from the crowd was just too overwhelming & that was definitely the best moment in my entire schooling life! My teammates & i will then automatically sing our school song! Hahaha.... Ahhhh! Now i remembered we scrubed, washed and paint the court after it was renovated. All our hard work are memories left on the court. I miss Convent...Glory glory Convent flag flying high~

I actually had a chance to join my Convent teammates for the Private University and College tournament at Malacca. Then i will be representing MMU & get to revive back the good old days competing together again. I did not participate coz their list is full but i have my own tournament to look forward to. It would definitely be fun if i really played for MMU coz i might get to be 'setter' again but main point is i just want to play in the team together with my Convent teammates again! Our motto 'Teamspirit' has never died out. Haha... if i really went, after the match on Saturday in Malacca i have to straight go back KL for another tournament. Sounds fun!

Hope there will be up and coming tournaments soon. I was very happy on Sunday coz i felt the competitiveness of playing volleyball & its great to venture into my sports passion again. Now im wondering how is my Coach doing. Long time didn't hear from him. I should ring him up one day and im sure he has lotsa stories to update me.
